More and more families are choosing to use and celebrate the amazing power of the placenta, to support the transition time after birth by consuming it.
Why use the placenta?
Placentophagia, or the ingestion of the placenta, has been traditionally used for hundreds of years for its variety of positive effects postpartum.
The placenta is a rich source of nutrients, hormones and other biochemical substances.
It begins producing hormones at 6 – 8 weeks gestation to help sustain pregnancy. By the third trimester, there are three times the normal levels of hormones in a pregnant woman’s body.
Between day 3-5 postpartum, these hormone levels will drop considerably, going back to pre-pregnancy levels, and with this the beginning of the ‘baby blues’. This is where the balancing properties of the placenta come into play.
Consuming your placenta has abounding benefits for the postpartum woman.

Placenta Encapsulation Services
How is the placenta encapsulated?
The first stage is the preparation and then dehydration of the placenta. The second stage is the encapsulation.
I trained with IPPA (International Placenta & Postpartum Association) in both methods; Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Raw Preparation Method.
TCM Method – the placenta is gently steamed (on its own or with ginger, lemon, hot pepper or any other herb of your choice) slowly dehydrated, ground to a powder and then placed into capsules.
The Raw Method is identical to that of TCM, except there is no steaming of the placenta.
Once the placenta has been encapsulated using vegetarian capsules, they are stored in an amber glass bottle. These capsules look like any other vitamin/herbal capsule you may take.
Placenta Tinctures:
Tinctures are an excellent alternative to get longer longevity from the placenta.
A placenta tincture is made from taking a very small portion of the raw placenta and placing it in a prepared solution of high-grade alcohol for a minimum of 6 weeks, then strained.
Placenta Prints:
The print is taken using the fetal side of the placenta; with its often dominant vessel structures and umbilical cord. Placenta prints are produced using the natural raw color of the placenta (dries as red/brown)
